Very misty nearly all day.
All quiet during the morning. Heavy shelling heard some miles away on our Right.
4.20pm Enemy fired several large Trench Mortars, which exploded near NE of Junction of KERRINUIR St and Dundee Avenue.
4.30pm Our 18lbs retaliated on trenches opposite 118 & 119.
4.33pm Our left front coy observed a cloud of chlorine gas coming from German front line trench, where our guns had just been shelling. The cloud was quite small. The Coy put on Tube helmets which proved quite satisfactory. Enemy did not take any further action.
3 pm Left front coy report that when our MGs opened fire on a portion of German wire infront of a mound of chalk in the German lines, there were cries & moaning distinctly heard, it was not possible to observe owing to the mist.
8th Suffolk Regt on our left.
14564 Pte G Stevens was wounded during this day, dying of his wounds at some point later in the day. He is now buried in Meautle Military Cemetery.
